Really nervous

Ok – I am really nervous.

Why would a self assured knitter be nervous? What could possibly put fear or trepidation in a vibrant healthy knitter?

No – it isn’t lace.

It isn’t cables.

It isn’t even dropped stitches.

It is another knitter.

Ok, this isn’t just any knitter. This is a knitter I have never met. She is in a nursing home and her eyesight has deteriorated a bit. She just wants someone to come and knit with her so that if she messes up it can be fixed. Well – I volunteered.

I don’t know why I volunteered. I don’t know what possessed me! I do NOT like meeting new people. It terrifies me.

Ok – I can hear my friends laughing uproariously. STOP IT! It is true.

That is why I take such care to ACT like it doesn’t bother me. I have a lot of pride and I don’t like for anyone to know that I am scared. If you try to scare me, I will get ANGRY. In haunted houses (which I have sworn off of after years of trying to see the point), I will relax and act very nonchalant. If you want me to meet new people – I will smile and act like a regular politician, but inside I am a quivering bowl of Jell-O.

It was hard for me to just CALL her on the phone. But I did (after I got my voice back). I have talked to her a couple of times now. She seems like a nice lady. She also seemed to think that I have done this before and it is a regular thing…

Poor dear… She doesn’t know who she is dealing with.

She has no idea that I am just a silly, sniveling, terrified knitter who has limited social skills and her foot in her mouth 90% of the time.

I scheduled to meet her on Wednesday (which happened to be my only FREE day this week).

Wish me luck.

You will be great. I'm sure you will feel you got the most out of your visit when you leave. I visited with an 89 year old women who I swear looks like she is in her 60s. We had the best time. She needed help with crocheting. I'm not much of a crocheter but was able to help her. Have fun and don't sweat it.

You are such a delightful person I know you'll do fine. And at least you quiver on the inside so she'll never know you're nervous. :)
