Walk or Knit?
OK. I can’t believe this.
But I have a friend who has asked me to start walking with her in the mornings.
DOES ANYONE ELSE REALIZE WHAT THAT WOULD MEAN?!?!
It would mean giving up my knitting time in the morning.
I don’t know if I can handle that.
But, it is a very good idea. The Big Texan and I have both started eating healthier. We are trying to make ourselves exercise too. So far we haven’t started exercising, but I know as soon as we do – HE will start dropping weight like mad and I won’t. If I start walking now, well he wouldn’t even have to know about (except that he reads my blog – I guess I didn’t think that through).
But I need to start walking. I need to get my metabolism going. I could even use the whole thing as an incentive… You know – I lose so many pounds or walk so many days and then I can knit for a morning or get some new yarn or something.
Let’s see, I could say after 5 days of walking, I can knit for 30 minutes with NO GUILT.
No. I can’t give up the knitting in the morning completely. That is one of the only things that gets me out of bed at the ungodly hour that I have to get out of bed (after only 5 hours of sleep).
I wonder if I can walk and knit…
I know I can – I have done it on the beach and on vacation. I would have my friend to stop me from barreling into oncoming traffic.
Also, this is a new friend and she would be a good connection to have (both things that are worth fostering).
I was considering walking after work. I could bring a change of clothes, walk around town before I drive home (thus missing traffic), and then take a shower.
The only thing wrong with that is I like to go and meet my knitting friends after work (not every day – but a lot of days). I guess I could use THAT as an incentive. If I walked so many days in a row, then I could go to the next knit night. That would curb how much I knit away from home and get me to do some exercising.
Hmmmmm
I wonder what other people do.
I have a couple of days before I have to decide. I am going to think about it.

Man, I know how you feel. Ever since we started training for the 3 day, it's like we don't have any time to knit. I'm already considering not walking next year - just donating money. lol. :) BUT, it's good for you, and I find that I really enjoy my walks - whether it's with everybody or just me and my iPod. :)
We do leave Thursday open though. Thursday is sacred, and no matter what else we do during any other part of the week, we're knitting on Thursday. :) Maybe you can just leave a certain day or two a week open specifically for knitting. :)

i know youlove your knitting! hopefully you will be able to work out something so you can walk and have time to knit too. walking is wonderful, since i have started i feel better when i do it. also i completely understand that guys seems to loose so much weight way faster than us women do! it is so frustrating that even if i work out harder and eatless than navy nuke he always loses weight and gets healthier a lot faster than i do. i love you an dhopefully one day when we move closer to you we can go walking together.

Walk 3 days, knit 2, like Manda said. And you really do NOT want to try to walk after work in the Texas heat. Mornings will still be hot, but not brain meltingly so. We don't want your brain melted now do we?

You can COMPLETELY do it, and it's so worth it, too. I know you'll succeed because
a) you rock; and
b) you have an incentive plan set up beforehand, so you've got a carrot to look forward to, and not feel like you're running on a hamster wheel with no end in sight.
Rock on, Rockstar!

This is a dilemma that most of us face at some point. I am not overweight, but I could use the exercise. I think it will ultimately boil down to just making the decision...without incentives. Incentives are easy to forgo if you just don't wanna walk, much like our allowances were easy to give up if we didn't feel like doing our chores. I make my kids do chores without being paid...no options. Just do it cause you're supposed to.
Go on your walks and think of it as buying more years to knit with. The healthier you are, the longer you live.
Hugs!
